Airbnb lets you stay in Disney and Pixar's most iconic home, and it floats

If you're a fan of 78-year-old Carl Fredrickson and his home ballooning adventure to Paradise Falls, which unwittingly takes young stowaway Russell, prepare to be blown away… quite possibly.

Airbnb has announced its summer releases, among them – mouse, a new category of “extraordinary experiences” hosted by the greatest names in music, film, television, art, sports and other fields. It says, “Symbols let you step into a world you've only ever dreamed of.” This month, it unveiled the first 11 icons available to rent through its platform, and it plans to release more experiences throughout the year.

One highlight is the chance to actually hang out in the Up House and sleep inside one of Disney and Pixar's most iconic houses – and yes, it actually floats. Inside, you can explore Carl's world in this detailed reconstruction of his home, decorated with over 8,000 colorful balloons, and set in the beautiful red rocks of Abiquiu, New Mexico.

Looking inside the candy-colored property, it's beautiful (and satisfying) to see the level of detail that goes into it. As far as we can tell, nothing has been left out or forgotten about the original animated film, which was released in 2009 and was a hit with many of us – even if we did undoubtedly cry during the first ten minutes. Spent in.

As a young boy, Carl Fredrickson wanted to explore South America and find the Forbidden Paradise Falls. Nearly six decades later, he gets a chance to do just that, along with Boy Scout Russell, by tying and flying thousands of balloons on the roof of the charming home he shares with his wife, Ellie. Carl and Russell inevitably make friends along the way, including a talking dog named Doug. And so, as you would hope and expect, all of these sides of the story will play out in Airbnb rentals, as you would hope and expect.

There are two chairs pushed together, along with a small footstool and Carl's walking stick. You'll notice Ely's beautiful painting of Paradise Falls over the fireplace and a pair of binoculars on the mantelpiece – an essential companion for great adventurers. Russell's bright yellow backpack is in the hall, and the My Adventure book is on a side table. A dog bowl with wooden stick is also featured in the kitchen, and a small dining table is located in the attractive bay window. But there's more, and anyone lucky enough to be here will enjoy looking through the decorations and accessories to match the movie.

As well as the Up House, you can spend a night at the Ferrari Museum, immersing yourself in the world of racing in Maranello, Italy. You'll sleep on a bed made of the same leather as Ferrari seats, take a spin with Scuderia Ferrari ambassador driver Marc Gené, and go to Emilia-Romagna's premier race as a VIP.

Or if race cars aren't your thing, how about stepping into X-Men '97 with Marvel Animation's 2D animated re-creation of the X-Mansion in Westchester, New York? “You'll discover your mutant abilities and even train in the Danger Room,” Airbnb promises.

How about going VIP with Kevin Hart? Now you can, as the American comedian and actor takes you inside his members-only Coramino Live lounge for an A-list evening. Very good. You'll join Kevin and his friends in this secret speakeasy, where they'll give you tequila tastings and live stand-up by the best comedians in the game. Where do we sign up?

For the sports fans among you, how about a stay at Paris' Musée d'Orsay and its iconic Clock Room? Mathieu Lehneur, designer of the torch and cauldron for the Paris 2024 Games, has transformed the cloakroom into a luxurious bedroom. “From the terrace, you will watch the historic opening ceremony of the Olympic Games along the banks of the River Seine,” says Airbnb.
